Old Town Gymnastics Academy

Welcome

Old Town Gymnastics Academy is a Veteran-owned and operated family business.

When children are young, movement is an integral part of their day. Learning to harness that energy and focus the mind on what the body is doing is not only a great way to develop skills for later, but it is also fun and enjoyable! Here at Old Town Gymnastics Academy (OTGA), we speak the language of movement and would love to help your child(ren) learn and develop.

Gymnastics is a language all to itself! A language of action in which various intentions of the body and mind appear cohesive. At OTGA, we have a “learn to move” philosophy. It is our goal to provide a safe, positive, secure, and loving environment in which children are encouraged to explore and grow at their own pace. We provide a positive experience that is crucial in the development of self-esteem, self-confidence, and self-worth. We build these skills with each child, knowing that self-awareness is critical in the development of a healthy well-rounded child.

OTGA services a variety of individuals in the Winston-Salem, North Carolina area. A native of the area, our owner and head coach Dawn Nelson (Tuti), loves working with people in her community. As a well-educated and experienced gymnastics professional, Coach Tuti continues to help each child who walks through her doors, both by working with them personally and by hiring quality, seasoned instructors. Our instructors have over 100 years of combined professional experience and they continue their education to ensure they stay current on techniques and changes or advancements in the industry.

Philosophy

Our philosophy is to develop a child’s self-esteem by providing many success experiences in a fun and supportive environment without emphasis on competition. Gymnastics develops strength, balance, coordination, flexibility and reading skills. The OTGA Training Program was also created to promote the development of reading-readiness, gross motor and fine motor skills. Laterality, directionality, hand-eye coordination and more are just some of the components of reading-readiness that are used in abundance in our developmental gymnastics programs.

Our Mission

Our mission is to use developmental gymnastics as a vehicle to bring self-discipline and self-confidence, character, responsibility and a Christian attitude to our children. We pledge to provide our students a fun, safe, well-structured, and physically exerting program, always within the scope of our philosophy and program goals. In our community, OTGA wishes to be role models for all youth-oriented sports programs. We work hard to offer the finest in cleanliness, friendliness, and service. We continually strive to provide our families with safe and innovative programs while giving back to the community in which we live, work and play.

Tuition is due by the first of the month. Auto pay/debit cash or check is acceptable. Tuition not paid by the 10th will accrue late fees on the 11th. For unusual circumstances please contact the front desk or email oldtowngymnasticsacademy@gmail.com. Classes are NOT offered on major holidays. See Holiday Schedule. Classes missed due to holidays have already been accounted for in our program calendar. Tuition pays for a program costs, not a set number of classes/hours per month, this is especially true for teams’ programs. On the other hand, we do not charge extra for months that have 5 lessons.

You must give notice in person to the front desk or via email to oldtowngymnasticsacademy@gmail.com by the 20th of the month prior to when you intend to drop. If not, you will be responsible for the next month’s tuition. Informing a coach is not acceptable notice. As with any children’s program, tuition is required until appropriate notice is given, as your child’s reserved spot is still being held for your child. Verbal notices given to any coach do NOT meet this requirement (coaches cannot accept withdrawal notices). It is the parent/guardian’s responsibility to contact the front desk.
  • Be dressed in appropriate gym attire. Girls: Leotards with bike shorts or t-shirts with leggings (sports bra underneath). Please be sure their modesty is protected. Boys: t-shirt and shorts/workout pants. Note: some groups will have special requirements such as Archery, Ninja or Cheer. Please check with us if there is a question.
  • Be punctual! Proper warm up is crucial for the prevention of injuries and to acclimate younger students!
  • Remember to sanitize your hands as you enter the gym floor area and when you get home.
  • Be respectful to the class before/after your class and remain in the waiting areas and keep voices low.
  • For those who wear beads in your hair: We LOVE the look BUT please keep in mind that the placement of the beads on the top of the head can make tumbling painful!!
  • Please supervise and keep siblings off the equipment/tumbling floors (also escort small children to the potty for safety/hygiene). This is for handwashing and leaving the potty clean.
  • No shoes on the training floors/mats.
  • Please use inside voices/keep volume down on gadgets etc.
  • Please CLEAN up after your family.

We offer make-up classes as a courtesy and only one per month per class. Tuition will not be adjusted for missed classes. Make-ups cannot be scheduled by the coach, they must be scheduled through the front desk 336-815-1688 or oldtowngymnasticsacademy@gmail.com If you fail to show up for a scheduled make up, it is forfeited.

In the case of inclement weather please check Facebook or call. We do not follow the school schedule. Classes canceled due to weather conditions will have make-ups offered.
